How accurate is a crane scale?

2025-06-09

The common range of scale accuracy

The scale accuracy of an crane scale is usually measured by the division value and accuracy grade. Generally speaking, the accuracy of a qualified electronic crane scale can reach 1/3000 to 1/6000. Take an electronic crane scale with a rated load of 3000KG as an example. When the accuracy is 1/3000, the allowable error is about 1KG. When the accuracy reaches 1/6000, the allowable error can be reduced to 0.5KG. The division values of electronic crane scales with different ranges also vary. For instance, in a conventional large-capacity electronic crane scale, the graduation value of a 3-ton electronic crane scale is 0.5kg, that of a 5-ton electronic crane scale is 1kg, that of a 10-ton electronic crane scale is 2kg, that of a 15-ton electronic crane scale is 2kg, and that of a 20-ton electronic crane scale is 5kg.

Sensor and device factors

The sensors inside the crane scale are very sensitive and it is difficult for them to stabilize and obtain accurate weighing data under vibration conditions. Due to improper operation or other reasons, the hanging scale may shake violently, causing the displayed data to fluctuate up and down. In severe cases, it may even lead to damage to the internal structure of the weighing sensor, thereby causing malfunctions in the crane scale.

Measures to ensure the scale accuracy

Standardize the operating procedures

Operators should strictly follow the correct procedures to avoid rotation and uneven loading of heavy objects during the lifting process. Before lifting, it is necessary to ensure that the center of gravity of the heavy object is perpendicular to the hanging support point to reduce the swinging and rotation of the heavy object. It is also necessary to pay attention to factors such as the temperature and humidity of the lifting environment, and try to use the crane scale under suitable environmental conditions.

Regular maintenance and servicing

Regularly maintain and service the crane scale, and check whether all components of the equipment are working properly. Do not disassemble the hanging scale or replace parts at will. If it is necessary to replace components, professional staff should be found to handle the operation. It is also necessary to keep the sensor clean and sealed to prevent dust and moisture from entering the sensor's interior and affecting its performance.

Regular calibration

The crane scale should be calibrated regularly to ensure that its scale accuracy meets the requirements. During the calibration process, operations should be carried out in accordance with the prescribed calibration methods and procedures, calibration data should be recorded, and the calibration results should be analyzed and evaluated. If the scale accuracy of the crane scale is found not to meet the requirements, adjustments and repairs should be made in a timely manner.

The scale accuracy of the crane scale is a key factor affecting the accuracy of the weighing results. Understanding the common range, influencing factors and safeguard measures of the scale accuracy of crane scales is of great significance for the correct use and maintenance of crane scales and for improving the accuracy and reliability of weighing results.
